NorCAN presents: What’s a Grant and Are You Ready for One? With Erika Wright

Are you new to nonprofit grant writing and looking for guidance? Join our workshop designed for beginners! We’ll cover the essentials: understanding different funding types, determining the best funding option for your organization, and the role of fiscal sponsors. We’ll delve into the elements of a grant and provide a positioning activity to help you decide if you’re ready to pursue funding.

We’ll demystify the process of reading a Request for Proposal (RFP), explaining common acronyms, and giving you the tools to navigate them effectively. We’ll also explore important considerations, such as eligibility requirements and questions to ask before embarking on a grant application, including the necessary documentation like tax forms, SAM registration, and DUNS numbers.

Lastly, we’ll equip you with strategies on how to find funding opportunities and conduct a funding survey activity to enhance your understanding. We’ll touch on common funding pitfalls and provide insights to avoid them.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a solid foundation in nonprofit grant writing. Whether you’re starting a new organization or seeking funding for an existing one, this workshop will empower you to navigate the grant writing process confidently. What is NorCAN?

The Northern California Association of Nonprofits (NorCAN) is a regional network of organizations and leaders connected in our dedication to strengthening our communities.

NorCAN was established in 1999 by Humboldt Area Foundation (HAF) to serve the rural nonprofit sector in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. Now operated by the ERV Community Center Foundation in Fortuna, NorCAN is dedicated to connecting organizations that are doing good work in the region so that they can avoid operating in isolation. We believe that when organizations share information, expertise, and resources, they can be more effective and efficient in their work and make deeper impacts in the communities they serve. To support this goal, we provide a range of resources and services, including training programs, professional development opportunities, and networking events. We aim to help nonprofits to collaborate, learn from each other, and achieve their missions more effectively.
